Gaoussou’s Fund

Gaoussou Doumbia, a Mali Health staff member for eight years, dedicated his career to supporting women in marginalized communities to build their financial autonomy so they could protect their health. He helped them work together to build their own resources, because traditional resources weren’t available to them. Learn more about our colleague and his work, here.

In his honor, we are establishing a fund to support the women Gaoussou served, to help them invest in their cooperatives, income-generating activities, and themselves. Gaoussou’s Fund will provide loans that aren’t accessible to women anywhere else.

Mali Health will raise revenue for Gaoussou’s Fund, but it will be led by women as a solidarity fund.

The first loan recipient will be Coopérative Bènkadi de Femmes de Sanankoro. Future loan recipients will be selected by the leaders of the Union des Coopératives.

A gift to Gaoussou’s Fund will help to build a local, sustainable, women-driven source of health financing for underserved women in Mali that will continue to grow as groups return their loans with interest.
