The single biggest
determinant of a child's survival is her
mother's education. MHOP enrolls all
10-17 year old girls in our Action-for-Health
families who have dropped out of school into a
3-month program. This program is based out of
our Hakili
Community Center. Each year 120 girls
learn:
literacy
entrepreneurship,
math, and
saving
health
work
skills
After the training they are given the
option to apply individually or as a group for
entrepreneurial
financing through our microfinance program. Click

Girls! While most programs
focus on adult literacy, teaching girls is much
more effective. Not only do they gain the
skills they need to advocate for themselves and
their communities, one generation down the line
their children have a much better shot at
survival.
Contextual
literacy. Instead of learning
literacy through irrelevant texts, our girls
learn how to make a difference in their
communities' and families' health.
